
Co-founder of Robertson Cooper, Cary set up the business with Ivan Robertson in 1999. A Professor of Organisational Psychology and Health at Lancaster University, he is recognised as a world leading expert on well-being. Cary is also the media’s first choice for comment on workplace issues. He remains an active member of the Robertson Cooper team, focusing on strategy, external relations and PR activity.
Cary is a Fellow of the British Psychological Society, The Royal Society of Arts, The Royal Society of Medicine, The Royal Society of Public Health and an Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians. He is also President of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, President of the Institute of Welfare and President of RELATE.
Having written and contributed to many scholarly and journal articles, Cary holds the post of Editor-in-Chief of the Blackwell Encyclopedia of Management, Editor-in-Chief of the medical journal of Stress & Health and Founding Editor of the Journal of Organizational Behavior. He is also the author/editor of over 120 books, with his latest publication ‘Well-Being: Productivity and Happiness at work’ being co-written with Ivan Robertson.
Cary’s past achievements also include: serving as Lead Scientist on the Foresight Review of Mental Capital and Well-Being (2007-2008); membership of the expert group on establishing the NICE guidelines on ‘promoting mental well-being through productive and healthy working conditions’ (2009); Chair of the Global Agenda Council on Chronic Disease and other conditions of The World Economic Forum for 2009-2010. HR Magazine named him ‘5th Most Influential Thinker in HR’ in 2011.
Cary enjoys spending time with his family, in particular his four children and their partners and his grandchild Jai. He is also a keen supporter of Manchester City, and a lover of politics and tweeting!
