Real experiences are so powerful. They invite emotion and stimulate thought. Nothing can compare to taking in the surrounds of an experience; the unique smells—someone’s perfume, freshly cooked food—and sounds—like music—that can bring you right back to a moment in time.

Last week, I volunteered to take on a single tasking challenge. Inspired by Geri Hirsch’s blog, I recognised that, like her, I have become very much a full time multi-tasker and perhaps it was time to start doing things in a more focused and mindful way. I was curious about science suggesting that single-tasking is better for your brain, that multi-tasking is a myth, so I wanted to see what the results would be.

So why, when we discuss workplace performance do we focus on stress and negative outcomes instead of the positive end of things: increasing happiness, good energy flow, what’s possible with positive pressure or taking joy from our environments?
