sportscotland is the national agency for sport in Scotland. Their vision is an active Scotland where everyone benefits from sport.
To support this vision internally, sportscotland needed a clearer understanding of employee wellbeing across the organization – particularly in relation to pressure, health, engagement, and performance – and how to take meaningful, targeted action at both the individual and organisational levels.
Over a two-year period, sportscotland partnered with Robertson Cooper to roll out the Good Day at Work Assessment to all employees. This comprehensive wellbeing assessment measured pressure, health, engagement, and performance. Immediately upon completion, each employee received a personalised Wellbeing Snapshot Report. This provided individual feedback on wellbeing and highlighted any workplace pressure, along with tailored tips for improvement.
Results Presentations
On average, across the two assessments, sportscotland achieved an exceptional response rate of 80% giving us confidence in the validity of the results. Robertson Cooper analysed the data and delivered a detailed 2-hour results presentation to key stakeholders at sportscotland, offering insight into organisational and departmental data, and identifying key pressure points. A follow-up 1-hour presentation was delivered to all employees, summarising the findings and outlining next steps.
All managers participated in a developmental webinar focused on how to hold effective wellbeing conversations. The session also emphasised the importance of creating a psychologically safe environment to support open communication within teams.
Team-Level Reporting and Coaching
Following the webinar, each manager received an aggregated Team Report, offering insights into team wellbeing and flagging any areas of pressure. To support the interpretation of the data, 20 managers took part in a 1-2-1 coaching session with a Robertson Cooper Business Psychologist. These sessions helped managers prepare to share results with their teams and co-create action plans.
Team Action Planning
Managers led sessions with their teams to share the results, discuss insights, and develop collaborative action plans to reduce pressure and enhance wellbeing. These plans were reviewed by the Senior Leadership Team, with key themes used to shape sportscotland’s broader wellbeing strategy.
Robertson Cooper encouraged sportscotland to keep wellbeing conversations active between managers and teams, ensuring sustained momentum and progress. This approach embedded wellbeing into day-to-day management and culture.
The Good Day at Work Assessment provided data-driven insights that helped sportscotland take targeted actions across the organisation. The second survey showed positive changes in all areas measured, demonstrating the impact of the interventions and action plans.
sportscotland has committed to continuing its partnership with Robertson Cooper through annual wellbeing reviews and targeted support where needed.
